Our journey began in the early morning mist of Sokcho. Seoraksan National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, awaited us with its granite peaks and vibrant autumn colors. This wasn't just a hike; it was an immersive experience into the heart of Korea's most beloved mountain.
The group, consisting of adventure enthusiasts from across Europe, started the ascent toward Ulsanbawi Rock. The trail was challenging, with steep stone stairs and winding paths, but the reward at every turn was a panoramic view that left us breathless.
"Standing atop Ulsanbawi, looking out over the East Sea on one side and the endless mountain ridges on the other, I finally understood why this place is considered sacred."
After the descent, we visited the Sinheungsa Temple, where the Great Unification Buddha stands tall. The contrast between the physical challenge of the hike and the spiritual serenity of the temple provided a perfectly balanced day. We finished with a traditional local meal, sharing stories and photos of our achievement.
